This is almost a conspiracy theory, but... there is just something that makes me suspicious about the way the Warhammer 40,000 line of games all feel like they are almost great games that just fall short in a few critical ways. Especially since they were published by Games Workshop, who are if nothing else scary-good at making money.

Could it be... could it actually be that they intentionally had the games designed in such a way to make you feel like they were just a few more optional rules away from actually being functional, so that you'd pick up every new supplement published in the hopes that this would be the one that fixed it all and made it reach its potential? Because that does seem to have been the result.
Aarrgghh, gamer ADD has me bad. I'm running three games right now, and I am itching to run at least three more, but I don't have enough time and energy as it is. :/

The retroclone they play is very simple and truncated (I did a google translate on it a while back) so they'd be as shocked at full 6E I'd say. Yeah basically it's like GORE.

I actually can't find any hard data on the industry there at all to be honest. This is all from Steam and face to face chats with Chinese gamers (and others who've chatted with them)

I just read your username pronunciation guide. I've been pronouncing your username as Sedna, like the Inuit sea Goddess.
As a side note I new a girl whose name was Shayanna, but pronounced it as She-ah-nah.

It was basically Sedna about 1,200 years ago. The spelling has stuck even though we don't pronounce it that way now.
I'm starting to like Roman-era games more and more. Should I make this my next Refereeing Trademark? The current ones are Wuxia/Kung-fu/Martial Arts, Swashbuckling, S&S, Cyberpunk and Mysteries. And I'm trying to add SF as well, but I need more work.

As a bonus, there's some great d100-based Roman games: Mythras Rome and Maelstrom Rome:grin:!

Just started a Heroic Greece game - the Classical ans Archaic peroiods have a great vibe, full pantheons and mythical beings.

I am somewhat less of a fan of some aspects of Mythic Greece. But it's complicated.

Mythic Roman Politics, however, are universally nice for a campaign!

I would love to run Mythic Rome one of these days. Ah well.

I believe someone was getting a T&T game together in our PbP forum.

Yes, I asked. Full right now. Thanks
Two of my Hunter: the Reckoning players ended up wrestling with a burning zombie until it finally expired, walking away with severe burns. I'm not sure if it quite fits the intended feel of realistic heroics, but I'm at least satisfied that they'll remember this campaign.
I persuaded our GM to run another CoC adventure for me. It turned out to be a tournament module! Huh, didn't know there were CoC tournament modules.
Name was something like "something weird in LA".

I lost all of 3 SAN and no HP soloing it. Yeah, everybody dies in CoC, sure!
My PC, however, ended up in good health, and exactly 400 times as rich as when he started.
How would I have rated?
Anyone up for some Big Eyes Small Mouth?

Heya there! Did you ever start that PbP campaign?

I'm actually about to do just that, expect the full game to be launched in the next few days
I am being told by an old timer in our group (a notorious railroader GM, no less) that I am a bad person for having people roll for their starting career in WFRP. And this is not a random internet person, it’s a friend who I’ve been gaming with on and off for 20+ years. Seriously, this fucking hobby.
So help me, I'm going to GURPS every WoD game I run from now on! The Storyteller System has officially gotten on my last nerve!

TBH I'm kind of fed up on the (nWoD/CoD) Storytelling System as well, so much that I've been considering getting AFter The Vampire Wars for Mythras, for my modern dark fantasy needs. I like the (oWoD) Storyteller System well enough. But I approve of conversions in general! See if you can get a hold of the old official conversions!

That's a system I really want to like, but every time I really try to get my teeth into it, I start thinking about how I could run it in whatever my favorite generic system is at the moment ...
I am reading some Fatal & Friends posts.

You know, I have complained repeatedly against tastelessly applied edgelording in games. But I'm sort of bemused at the F&F writers' apparent conviction that roleplaying should only ever be a safely bland exercise in wholesome monster-slaying and anyone who puts anything other than that in their game is a SICK PERVERT.

Also, I am flabberghasted by the amount of wailing in the Hunter: the Reckoning posts about how hunters can't stand up to vampires with Celerity 5 and assault rifles. Er, yeah, but... as long as the GM follows the same don't-twink-your-character principle that's belaboured throughout the book, most vampires aren't going to be min-maxed to perfection, and nor will they normally be carrying assault rifles around?

Seriously. I have run a lot of HtR. I have never found monsters to be too unkillable. The opposite, if anything.

I can only assume that this comes from the same place as the constant insistence that mages are all-powerful because everyone but me ignores the part of the rules whereby they need a gazillion successes to actually do any magic more impressive than lighting a candle.
This is 2020. I can live with not having flying cars but why don’t we have handy apps that automate character creation and character sheet management for every RPG?
Discovered recently: I can actually do the "pistol squat" on one of my legs (but I need something to support me on one side). The other leg needs to build just a bit more strength before that (and obviously I need more balance on both, because I need the side support to avoid toppling).
Life with kids teaches you a lot.
Nothing signals the twilight of the OSR like the inactivity of Your Dungeon Is Suck.
It's very weird to read the news today, and find one of my ex-girlfriends leading a campaign against a writer I know. Even weirder that we stopped dating pretty much because of things I said about said writer....

I know the feeling. I looked up an estranged friend on Facebook a while back, and the first entry I saw was her declaring that such-and-such group of people were the scum of the Earth and should be unconditionally shunned. And, okay, I don't necessarily disagree as far as the scumminess of said group goes, but..

... the way I remember it we had a falling out in the first place because she thought I was being too intolerant, hidebound and unreasonable.

I considered asking but thought better of it.
Far from complaining about railroading, my players keep whining that they don't want to make choices, they just want to know which way to go to get to the next cutscene.

I'm choosing to believe that that's because I'm really good at writing cutscenes and not because I'm really bad at providing interesting choices...

When players don't choose, NPCs make the choice for them. Bad guys are liable to kick down doors and come in shooting, as Raymond Chandler was wont to do with a stalled plot.
Baeraad
Baeraad
That's my default stance too. If the players don't try to control the course of events, I make things get steadily worse. But these players, THEY DON'T CARE! They just keep going with the flow even when the flow is leading them over a waterfall!
What do you do when you create your own NPC Enemy and realize that he can easily take on anyone one level of experience above you (and win)?
Personally, I prepare for fun times ahead.
I've managed to narrow down my list of "what would I consider running, over the net and in English, without having to do a lot of prep."

Then, my definition of a lot of prep in this case is "not having to translate a game" or "having to create an entire universe for my own Traveller Setting".

Still, I've managed to get the list down to just six games .

I understand; but whatever your vision, if it implies you learning a new system, it’s yet another obstacle. Which is why I use this as one of my exclusionary criteria.

PbP should work for me in theory, but in practice they are either too slow or too fast for me (or both at the same time). I might make a new attempt sometime.

@AsenRG, if I recall correctly from some thread recently it is more a question of not having time or not being able to commit to any form of schedule rather than an aversion of using voice?
Helping my company catch up on its share of binding intercompany arbitrations so I'm doing hearings all week as an arbitrator. As a result, I may not be able to update any PBPs during the week.
Planning to play Fractured Kingdom with a solo engine (houseruled by me, but including parts from the WoD Solo engine, Mythic and CRGE). The first PC is going to be a Verdant guy with a knack for languages. Still now sure what the second PC is going to be.
...how "dead" is a Grave Lucid's body? Rotting? Fully functional except it feels less pain? Something in-between?

First Daughter got her first sword/saber lesson today. It was nice, she's taking well to the steps and almost didn't hit the floor with the downwards strikes!
First Son got his first sword/saber lesson as well. He only hit himself once, so it's good for him as well!
Of course, they're 7 and 3, so I wasn't hard on them. And they were using adult-sized bokken.
We needed a warm-up before MA practice.
