Dolmenwood PbP - New Rules suckas!

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
As an aside, is there going to be a seperate OOC thread, or will this recruitment thread serve that function?
That's a good question. I've been going back and forth on it. An OOC thread is a good place to collect resources and track things, but I really don't think it's necessary for OOC chat, per se. This thread would do that job just as well, as would something on Discord for that matter. The collected resource thingy could just be handled by the OP in the IC thread. I'm not sure which way I want to go. I am prepared to be swayed by cogent arguments and/or bribery.

Doesn't matter either way, to be honest. Although I don't do Discord much.

Note: I haven't bailed. I've just been putting together the entire 2024-25 schedule for my academic department and finishing my Fall 2023 grading. I should be done by tomorrow night or Wednesday morning and will then get to the character.

Putting together course schedules for entire academic departments ... I knew HERO System had prepared me for something in adult life.
I'm doing the same thing this week, sort of. We have a significant divide between the courses we are allowed to teach and the instructors we have under contract. Not so much total numbers but specialized expertise. So we're getting creative.

So I had some computer issues and have lost all my prep for this campaign that wasn't done with pencil and paper (as well as my entire RPG PDF library). Recovery is in progress but between this and Christmas we will all have to be patient for perhaps another week or so. Sorry folks!

No worries, take your time, enjoy the holidays, and we'll get things cranked up once all the hubbub dies down...

Oof, I hope it sorts out quickly that's rough.

One of the reasons I put things on googledocs/googledrive these days as I've lost too much to computer issues over the years.

OK, I'm ready to spin this bad boy up and get us rolling. Everyone except the ever-prepared Tulpa Girl Tulpa Girl needs to finalize their characters and get the inputted into the character keeper (link in my sig below). If anyone needs help finalizing their characters just holla. I'd also like everyone to take a read through the Prigwort Gazetteer (also linked in my sig) so they have some idea about the town we will be starting in. If you have an idea why you're in town and where you staying awesome, but if not I'll settle the group into some digs no worries. Assume you have this coming week payed up wherever you're staying, but beyond that you only have whatever coin you generated in char gen.

You guys can make whatever arrangements you like about who knows who, who likes who, who dislikes who, who wants to get into who's pants, etc etc. Our starting hook will work no matter what that looks like, so go nuts. Once the characters are all in place, or close, I'll drop some play threads and we'll be off to the races.

I'll try and get everything done soon, hard when I can't be on my computer long, got to have my leg elevated. ;/

If it helps with backstory or whatever we are going to start in the first week of Symswald, the 4th month of the year. It has been a bitter winter but things are finally starting to warm up and the town and countryside are alive with the tinkle of snowmelt. Prigwort is emerging from its winter slumber and there is a sense of excitement in the air as next week, on the feast of St. Thorm, will be the Annual Vinterøl Festival, where all the brew houses of Prigwort showcase their winter brewing projects. There will be a parade, feasting, and much merriment. Young women are already decorating the town with the traditional pine bough bunches decorated with the first of the spring flowers.

Ok, I think I got everything filled out with a couple exceptions. I assume that Chainmail and Shield is AC 4? I didn't fill it in, as I wasn't sure if Dolemwood changed that from B/X/BECMI, etc. Also, I took the ability mods from BECMI; I think they're the same as B/X, but I don't have a B/X book handy. Adjust as necessary :-) I also threw equipment into the Kindred and Class abilities; if you'd rather it not be there, or on the sheet at all, I'll remove it.

Finally, regarding a bit of background and place in the setting: I'm thinking that Wilsey was either an orphan, or a 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc) child given up to the church to raise, as his parents were unable (or unwilling) to do so. He's grown up within the churches structures, living at the Swinney Tower, and also working as needed in Prigwort. Wilsey has worked his way up the church hierarchy, studying dutifully and strictly following the church elders and the tenets of the one true God, and has recently been given his Writ of Self Determination, some supplies and last minute directions, and sent on his way into the world to do God's will.

Dolmenwood has switched to ascending AC, so Chain and a shield in AC 15. A background with the church and especially the group at the Swinney Tower should give you some useful contacts.

OK, we just need hawkeyefan hawkeyefan and Bunch Bunch to enter characters, nice. I'll give them the once over to check for mistakes and I'll start writing up the beginning of the IC post today.

I missed something or forgot it. Here's my character:
Where do I need to put it?

In a hand basket going to Hell, along with the rest of us heathens.

Alternatively, here.

Any chance you can post the Knight class details? I'm going to play a human knight since it looks like fighter and thief wound up being covered.

I'm not sure about saves, hit points, class gear, XP, and any class abilities. You posted the human kindred abilities, so I'll add those. But if you can post the knight, that would help me finish.

I've entered what I have so far onto the keeper.

Oh, also, if you could tell me how to determine the trinket, too!

Here's the knight entry. House Harrowmoor is the one that rules Prigwort and environs, so choosing that house will be somewhat different than the others, as you might imagine.

Oh thank goodness they revised the Knight description so that it didn't mandate characters challenging ogres to single combat and dying.

Okay, Fenris-77 Fenris-77 I think I'm all set. I just need a trinket, and also let me know if I missed any steps. I don't have the book, so if there's anything I missed let me know!

I went with House Harrowmoor to keep it simple. I figure he's a commoner who somehow impressed them enough to be made a squire. I don't know if I need a specific mentor knight as an NPC or anything like that. Let me know.

I think I am MOSTLY set.
I dont know how much XP I need to level
I dont know my speed
and
I dont know my saves.
Other than that I think I'm good.

hawkeyefan hawkeyefan - your trinket is a a gauntlet of wyrm scales (fancy!)

Bunch Bunch - I filled in the relevant bits for your character in the Keeper

I should have the threads and starting post up today or tomorrow.

Fenris-77 Fenris-77 Okay man I will fill in a spreadsheet for your game but only because of fraternal love. Fuggin spreadsheets.

Is there anything the party needs to fill out a role? I wanted to play a goat knight but that was 5 pages ago and besides, the wench is dead. I'll play anything if it helps the band come together.

Ah-ha! The wild JAMUMU JAMUMU appears. You can play a Breggle knight if that's what props your tent. The group doesn't have a traditional magic user, but with an Enchanter and a Cleric I don't think it's a dire lack. Do as you please there.

Aw man casters are my least favourite so I'll just stick with the knight. Am slaving over the spreadsheet now.

I think I'm about done, but where do I find the bit with the lower houses listed so I can pick a lower house?

Your choice of house will affect things in-game, just so you are aware.

Yeah man I thought you might do be like that though, that's why I went with the guys i went with. Is is just straight B/X saves? Can i use my OSE book to fill that in?

Knight saves are listed above in post 223.

Did you mean House Murkin on the keeper (as opposed to House Murkle)? That could be some interesting conflict with the Harrowmoor elements of the party.

I did indeed, I got confused with the last part of goatboy's surname. I did indeed mean House Murkin, Purveyors of the Finest Pubic Wigs in Dolmenwooddom!

Fenris-77 Fenris-77 I'm happy to go House Hogwarsh if that's easier, as that was my second choice.

Nah, go with your first instinct. We can play to find out how it all shakes out. Conflict, up to a point, makes things more interesting. There's also likely to be an enemy of my enemy is my friend vibe as we move along.

Oh, Tulpa Girl Tulpa Girl - you still need to fill in gear and abilities and whatnot. If need resources to do that let me know.
