But why haven't they annoyed me?

Maybe they consider me a valued member of the forum and have took my criticisms into account? How suspicious.
There has to be a joke in there about Stockholm Syndrome, but I fail to see the punchline.

So I updated the title to include next guest. Hows that look to everyone? I am watchingwith email notifications so I should be able to keep on top of changes.
Hi Bunch! I just wanted to check in to see if you were still planning on doing this. It doesn't look like the thread title has been changed in a while.

Is there a way for me to do it myself? If so, I certainly don't mind doing so.

Thanks!

I was for a while and forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

If for some reason I need to take a break I'll do my best to just change the title to a neutral Q&A.

I have to say, we have remarkably few issues to deal with as mods. You all are an excellent base to moderate for. Problems are quite infrequent, most everyone knows to keep out of the traps. Thank you all for that.
Mostly we just have to deal with other mods who may or may not be geese infiltrators.

Luckily, after some investigation behind the scenes, it looks like goose infiltration of the mod team was just a vicious rumour.

No, I've not been discovered. They're just fishing for info. No they haven't discovered the fish. All hail our feathered overlords!

Are you really sure you want to fight a goose?

Are we sure we don’t want to revisit the idea of having a dedicated forum, or perhaps a dedicated thread like the kickstarter thread, for commercial announcements?

Might not be a bad idea. Seems like we're getting more of the "single post advertising their game/kickstarter/whatever" folks, each doing their own thread.

I dunno, not a huge deal, as I just ignore them, unless its posted by a Pub regular...

I'm not overly fond of the idea of a separate space. Not because I don't find them annoying - I do. I like my pub people to chat a while and not just hawk their wares. Mostly because it presents an ever present visual clutter that no one will read and it won't actually promote any discussion about their game.

We maybe should make sure there is a part in the guide that says "hey, you come here with just a sales pitch and nothing else, it is going to fall very flat here. Most of us have played more RPGs than pages in your game."

I'm pretty sure the type of person who posts and advertisement and runs is never going to read the rules. So having a dedicated forum for people who aren't reading the rules is unlikely to cut down on spam posts.

If this relates to the DND PVP thing, I don't have a problem with it per se ... except the post we just got provided no context or commentary whatsoever, just a big ad that clearly wanted me to click it to find out more.

I've seen people come in to talk up their new whatever, and if they actually take the time to tell me about it, I'll probably still just move on, but I won't be annoyed. If it's essentially just a banner ad masquerading as a thread, on the other hand, fuck you and your shitty game.

That’s the newest but not the only one, there Is also this one where they added links to their entire DrivethruRPG catalog over a period of days.

I’m not against people drawing attention to product or podcasts or blogs or whatever but I wonder if a dedicated place to do it wouldn’t be better.

Mind you I don’t mind these nearly as much for the members that regularly participate. I’d say require a minimum post count before people can start promoting their stuff BUT that would add extra work on the staff to enforce the policy and I really don’t want to add to their load.

I never clicked that initially, due to lack of interest. Checking it now, it was topical, they made some effort to explain what the game was about and why I might care, kept their follow-up posts on the topic to a single thread, and made an effort to contribute elsewhere. I'm OK with that, until we're inundated with self-advertising threads.

I'll be honest, I prefer when a fan of something shares news instead of the creator. Especially, when a fan is a long time member of the forums already.

(Me defending my desire to announce new Japanese games that are coming just to talk about them).

To be clear I’m with you, I don’t consider your posts as advertisements.

With that paritcular poster, he comes to plug D&D PvP about twice a year so I don't have much worry about him spamming. He has also previously engaged with questions, but I'm not sure most of us care enough to ask any.

Bold of you to assume that some of us on here have fans of our work. Well, ok, I do, but my mum doesn't post on here.

Is there an easy way to limit new posters to certain sub-forums until they have introduced themselves at least? That might help reduce the spam, or at least contain it. And if someone never introduces themselves, maybe they just get deleted along with their spam.

I'm all for contributors self promoting so long as they engage the community. Ideally they engage over more than just their self promotion, but if they at least answer questions about their product, there's some engagement.

I think probably if that was going to be done the way to go would be restricting making a thread rather than restricting to certain subforums. That way they could join in on the conversation anywhere, they just couldn't make their own topic for a bit.

But even that isn't something I see a reason to be done at the moment.
