This game was a huge part of my childhood. We played an abbreviated version without parliament or any of the advanced rules other than possibly the ambush attack taking the last name off the event card combat outcome.
I'd like to play it again but I don't have a week to do it. Anyone familiar with the game will recall long endgames where a larger force is chasing a smaller force all over the map. Trying to engage in combat without the large force having it's nobles sent willynilly all over the map handling revolts was somewhat amusing as a child but I think my tolerance would be lower for it these days.
I have fond memories of keeping an heir on a ship near Carisebrook while my extremely frustrated friend tried to engage me.
Does anyone know either house rules that shorten the game while keeping the spirit of it or a similar game that's shorter?
