Is there a way to Ignore individual threads so that I don't get tempted to spew bullshit?
No. There isn't one within the forum functionality.

I seem to recall that there is a Firefox plugin called Greasemonkey that lets you script alterations in how forums appear to you, allowing you to make subforums or threads invisible on your browser. You might want to look into that.

I expect Episode IX to make $1B worldwide.

I wonder what Solo means for SW other media ventures.

It’s not time for Disney to retire the franchise. It’s time for them to retire from the franchise.

Agreed. Disney has made it clear they're not wanted as fans so they should spend their money elsewhere.

About a decade ago, I effectively stopped going to first run theaters. Its been great. I don't lose anything by waiting 3 months for a film and at $3.50 (or $1.75 on Tuesdays!), its easy to shrug off half-arsed movies and just enjoy the action bits. And it's not even about the price. It's about the ROI.

OMG, I completely forgot about the Ewok movies.

OMG, I love the Ewok movies and Christmas Special! :shade: They're so much better than the prequels, (which don't exist, la la la! oh happy day, happy Star Wars memories!)

Now take this with two large grains of salt, but there's rumors swirling (so far only found on partisan web sites otherwise I'd post a link), that Bob Iger "recognizes that there is a problem with Star Wars," and "is eager" to fire Kathleen Kennedy. Supposedly there was a closed door meeting earlier this week with a bunch of Disney executives and producers to discuss the "Star Wars problem." This same rumor also states that Bob Iger would have fired her already, but he's having trouble finding someone willing to take the job. He's supposedly already asked J.J. Abrams to replace her, and he turned him down. Wanting to replace Kathleen Kennedy with J.J. Abrams makes me wonder if Bob Iger realizes exactly what the "Star Wars problem" is, but I digress.

The Last Jedi just appeared on Netflix, so I'll be watching it over the next few days. I rarely have the concentration to watch a movie in one sitting.

I’ll re watch it again. I hope I like it better on a second viewing.

My son keeps asking me when the Han Solo movie will be out on DVD. I offered to take him to see it (and the other recent movies) but he has determined that he doesn't like to see movies at the theater because at home he can eat, pause the movie, go use the bathroom, rewind something he didn't hear, etc. He has seen the trailer s dozen times and likes it so there's one vote in favor of Solo.

Solo isn't a bad movie. It's the victim of the failures of the movie that came before it.

All this talk of starwars reminded me of A video I saw meany years back hope you guys like it.

PS. Thank you Dumarest for the hardware wars trailer posting I got A big kick out of that.

I prefer Dave Filloni.

That ‘rumour’ sounds like nonsense. I doubt such deliberations would leak and if they did they would do so through the likes of Variety not some random SW fanatics on the net.

I don't believe that Bob Iger thinks there is a Star Wars problem. They probably identified what went wrong already and will adjust accordingly. I think it was simply that the movie was poorly marketed from a trailer standpoint and that it should have been released in December instead of May. Disney's pretty damn smart overall. They will keep SW on course.

From everything I've heard Solo itself isnt considered a bad film and audiences on the whole enjoyed it. So I think whatever changes Disney takes it wont be in regards to how they are making their SW films, but in how they go about releasing them.

Its unfortunate the home video market no longer practically exists to "save" those films that dont capture an immediate audience upon initial release.

This is a very interesting point. Films that are considered classics now like The Thing, Blade Runner and Big Lebowski bombed at the box office and really found their following on VHS and DVD. Films can be rediscovered via streaming I think but will it have the same impact?

Blade Runner was a life changer for me. When I was 10 years old in 1982, my mom smuggled me into a Drive In to see it. I liked it more than Star Wars. I liked it more than Indiana Jones. I started reading William Gibson not too long after that. Then came Ghost in the Shell in the 90s. I stil haven't seen the sequel yet, though since I have several copies of Blade Runner on my bookshelf, I'll probably get the Blu-Ray at some point.

...Office Space, The Shawshank Redemption, Buckaroo Banzai...there are lots of movies that had an afterlife thanks to tapes and discs.

even Austin Powers got two multi-million dollar sequels based solely on hitting the cultural zietgiest in the rental market

Unfortunately, I don't think so.

Media has become incredibly disposable while new content production has increased dramatically. Netflix is both an exciting cornucopia and frightening avalanche. AKA, there is just too much to see, and once binged, its forgotten as people move to the next binge.

Rewatching things on Netflix isn't something I tend to do. I can only assume other people have a similar reluctance to view the same things over and over. Which is the exact opposite of how I am with physical media.

I find with current technology, I am a lot more casual about approaching the next new thing. It's especially true with Netflix series and premium cable series. A Netflix series is going to be there on Netflix forever. There is no need to watch it tonight. I can keep putting it off. Same with HBO series. It's the opposite of when I was young and catching a episode of a series was critical. I might end up having to wait until summer reruns, or I might even never see it again.

There is little urgency for me in watching new shows now.

Personally untill I triped over A new show A bit back I was rewatching log horizon for the 2nd or 3rd time on crunchy roll.

Netflix has a lot but if you want to watch foreign language films a lot of them are still difficult to track down unless they get North Americsn distribution. Filmstruck, Mubi, Shudder and other specialist streaming services are starting to address that though Filmstruck is still not available outside the US.
