This afternoon, for the first time, I heard myself being described as "an old man walking his dog".

I mean, fair enough. That's not wrong and not really a surprise. It's just that that was the first time I've heard someone refer to me as "old".
Fun huh? A few years ago I was trying to give a DHL guy a hard time who had parked very close to my $35k Harley Davidson Road Glide Special (Don't ask a bunch of work was done to it) and my wife's Mini Cooper. He basically continued to ignore me as I asked to to back up a bit and to not be so close to my motorcycle. In the middle of this he says suddenly "Hold on some old man is bitching at me". I wanted to return to the house and get my baseball bat.

Not the eruption (I don't think it's affected flights), but the airport in Dubai (in the middle of the desert) is now intermittently closed due to flooding so we might be delayed by that.
While I feel for you on the delayed flights, the idea of potentially a ton of rain in the desert as a possible side effect of global warming is slightly comforting to me.

Its been a couple years so I made garlic soup again. Just for fun.

Its easy. Starts "1 head of garlic, about 16 cloves" and I'm going "nope! 30 cloves", right off the bat. A few other spices, gentle boil for half an hour. Chunk of bread in each bowl, top with an egg poached in the soup, strain the soup in. Cheese on top to taste.

Family is yumming it up and all I can think is "needs more garlic".

I've been put on blood pressure medicine (apparently a consistently over 180 systolic is bad for you!), and while it is bringing my blood pressure down to "you are not about to have a stroke" levels, I'm feeling really wonky since I started taking it.

Doctor says it may just be getting used to not having blood pressure in the stratosphere and that it could pass, but this last week has been rough.

Most of it will probably pass. Some bp meds cause a bit of fatigue, though. If you're on a diuretic, you might piss away a few pounds of water weight.

Kids, healthcare, and houses are titanic money sinks. The rest of the family is a close second.

Meh, I don't complain. Much of it is first world problems that I'm happy to have compared to something like living in the horn of Africa and places that are actual or effective war zones.

Still problems. Still headaches and heartburn. Especially if its fucked up healthcare systems.

What with the obsession of all things Unicorn with Bella (our newly adopted 4 year old), I've naturally succumbed!

However, I thought I'd pick up the old pencils and art pad again... Going to do this as a painting but the sketch is coming out nicely. Since I've not drawn in about two decades, I'm copying from an old black and white piece of fantasy art - one of my favourite Easley pieces from a Dragonlance module:

Copying freehand but its starting to come back to me! I'll feel more like it being something other than a copy when it becomes a painting - I'll have took it to a new place beyond the original piece...

A long way to go but its starting to take shape...

... Considering its been at least two decades since I painted I'm pretty pleased with how its going.

The other day a drunk driver got going the wrong way down the highway here and took out a bus stop full of people, mostly from the same family. Killed 2 and sent others to the hospital. One girl, 11 yrs old, is in a coma... she's one of the Players in our after school D&D club.
I've been feeling pretty salty about it all weekend... annoyed at random horrors falling on the sky... no rhyme or reason, just a big sack of misery and death.
Not that this is some big new revelation for me, but I've found myself wanting (more than I usually do) to start arguments with certain members of the 'Everything Happens for a Reason' society.

Well, got back safe and sound.

Broke and struggling this month—stupid bills.
Hang in there, and wishes for some good luck.

I may find out this week where stand in the company reorganization; I will not be particularly sad if I am out. Also have an opportunity that came up very recently asking questions on, will wait to hear my fate though before moving forward.

Well, at least I know I don't floss wrong (as I do not floss). I probably should. I should also probably go to a dentist :B. (I take good care of my teeth (outside of not flossing like I should) but as teeth in the US are "luxury bones" I haven't actually gotten them checked in a long time).

I was putting something in the back of the car this morning I must hot have opened the hatch all the way because it suddenly slammed down with the force of a thousand exploding suns right on the top of my head. Cut my scalp pretty thoroughly because within seconds there's huge amounts of blood running down my face and neck. I haven't leaked this much since I got my nose broken a decade ago. So I immediately run to the shower pressing a towel to my scone with one hand and trying to get out of my clothes with the other before my outfit starts looking too much like Exhibit B in a murder trial. Meanwhile the cat's losing her mind because she thinks something's attacked me, running around yowling at me and hiding behind furniture. Stupid scalp wounds. At least I have no concussion and the hole (size of a rice grain) has scabbed over so I'm OK, but yeah, this was not an ideal start to the day.
