As anyone heard from Dumarest since the 30th of October? I know its not a huge amount of time and there is a lot going on, but I was curious.

That is wierd. He's our most prolific poster. Where are you Dumarest Dumarest ?!?

Yes I have missed seeing posts from Dumarest Dumarest as well.
He last posted on 01/11/20. I hope everything is okay with him

Well damn.

Times being what they are, we all get extra jumpy when a poster goes silent. And a prolific poster like Dumarest silent for two weeks is a bit concerning.

Hope we get to hear from Dumarest Dumarest and OHT OHT (maybe a thread merge is in order?) in good health and better spirits as soon as possible.

Spinachcat was posting on the Site fairly recently. I just assumed he didn’t like posting here any longer.

Yeah I have been busy as hell myself, but now that you mention it, I'd hate to think anything bad happened.

So, that's how many people MIA at the moment? Three?

Well, posters filter in and out. There's been many over the years. Spinachcat last posted in January, the may have just moved on or be doing something IRL. OHT's disappearace is the most concerning. Dumarest...well, there's a reason he may of quit the forum, but don't know if that's the case, and his absence is certainly conspicuous.

Dumarest seems unlikely to have just quit. Some of his lasts posts were statements updates would be forthcoming in games.

Spinachcat logged in today at the Site so I think he's probably ok and just not posting here.

While we're talking about missing posters, does anyone know if Old Geezer is ok? From what I know he's in an age group extra at risk from Covid which obviously raises concerns.

He's good health-wise, I can say that much. I'm in touch with him. I'll let him know y'all cared. Oh and a quote: " I've dropped off almost all forums, as have most of the "Old Guard," for that very reason. We're tired of getting shit on, we're tired of our friends getting shit on. "I don't like undead draining levels" is fine. "Undead draining levels is stupid and Gygax was a moron" I am fucking sick and tired of. "

That’s the problem with unplugging from the Pretty Hate Machine, ie. Social Media. You lose track of people. I think Dumarest might be taking a break based on the circumstances of his last post. Worried about Dan though.

Thanks, Silverlion. I've relieved to hear that. It's a loss to the forum, but I get it.

I don’t remember him getting shit on here but I understand his feelings. My own personal opinion is that some of his vocabulary choices did not help his cause that much. It’s always a two-way street.
True. However, anytime a few people post in support of X, we have a few other people who mount up and start charging in defense of Y and start the AntiOneTrueWayism Crusade 384,735,948. Plus we have at least one poster who has made it their personal mission to belittle Gygax and deny him as anything other than a guy who wrote a few good modules, and also attack with a petty vindictiveness only seen in academia any source from BitD that doesn’t mesh with their personal view.

I can see why discussion of model trains can be infinitely more rewarding, especially if you’re in your 60’s and don’t want to play High School and deal with forum cliques.

I don't think it was just The Pub, I saw Gronan's exit from a number of forums at the same time, and it was clearly an across the board action. That said, I know he took the complaints about Garycon and refunds personally, and I for one never shied away from critisizing Gygax, but it''s not like Old Geezer was ever bubbles and sunshine. Can't say I'll miss the constant references to his anatomical functions.

You know that anytime you delve into something that people are passionate about, there’s going to be people who hate on A who love B and vice versa, even for shit reasons. Yeah Gary is “The Godfather” of D&D but he wasn’t a saint and made many blunders in his life like any other person. Why OG would get upset about what somebody online says about somebody he knew in person is interesting, especially when he would tell those people to fuck off in gross language.

Why didn’t he just hang out at Dragonsfoot? It seems they would have loved him there.

Maybe he'll get around to finishing that book he was working on. Still think it would be a great pairing with Peterson's Playing at the World, providing more of a first person view

When I owned a forum, I would usually reach out to posters who had been awol via email. Sometimes they'd appreciate it, and come back for a while or for a while longer. Sometimes, they wouldn't respond. But it was cool to see old faces when they'd pop back in.

That having been said, has anyone tried PMing Duma? He may have email alerts set up.I never kept his contact info from the stuff he mailed me. I usually don't ever assume I'm gonna need someone's IRL deets, and I've had people hang onto mine, and use them to doxx me, so anytime I get something like that, straight into the trash it goes. Tha'ts just me though.

Spinachcat posts a lot on TheRPGSite. And I don't think he cares much for this forum anymore based on a few posts he made, one in which he responded to me when I kind of wrote a warning that TRS was getting so political it was driving away gaming discussion. He called this place "an RPG Nursing home". I suspect he enjoys the political trolling posting nowadays.

He tended to be very cranky. Years back I once posted on the site an inquiry into why the "original D&D doc" Kickstarter had divided into two camps, and he took it like I had no write to even make an inquiry. *Shrug*

An email would be less creepy than an unsolicited piece of physical mail to me. It's why I've hesitated sending snail mail. 2020 is wierd times though so it might come across as more thoughtful less creepy.

I won't lie, I have no love for people declaring themselves the Pub's enemies, or casting themselves as victims when they are in fact anything but.

I mean, the sad truth of the matter is that controversy and arguments leads to more posters (of a certain inclination) posting more often. When everyone is in a good mood The Pub is more like a lazy afternoon tea party. I can totally get why the rotating outrage of TheSite is sometimes more appealing, been there, done that (though it did occassionally lead to burnouts for me). The Pub will continue to be here, a welcoming place, for those who want the vibe here, even if it's only during breaks between posting at other forums.

I think that we should start taking a harder stance against our enemies and slanderers.
