Whamageddon 2022 - Wham! Harder

For a while it seemed I had a chance of making it. I get the impression it's not being played as frequently as usual. But that one time they were playing it caught me off guard I guess...

I've avoided shopping malls and Christmas markets, so until today I'm still unaffected. I haven't even heard Mariah Carey.
(Famous last words)
Only two places I'm usually at danger are the supermarket and my work. Today I got quasi-rickrolled because it was used as background music in some video from the news site I frequent... So even if I had avoided going to work and shopping for groceries I would've lost today.

The extreme weather has meant my work was closed for most of this week so we've been mostly locked down at home which has helped me avoid any Whameggdon danger. Think I'm going to make it.

The goal was in sight, but I got sniped. Spittingwife likes to have the radio on while we do housework. Even then, I could have made it if she didn't point out that it was playing and we'd both lost. (One of the jobs for yesterday was to hot-glue decorations to a hat she bought for a wedding next month.)

In my huberous I thought I was safe in my own house, well, I flew too close to the sun and have fallen.
Time of Wham: 3:28pm.
Cause of Wham: Random spotify playlist my family had playing.
Thus ends an almost 3 year streak.

Victory!

It's 7am Christmas morning here in Australia, and I've won. Some close calls in there, and no shortage of other offensive ear-gougers but I did not get Whammed. Bask in my glory.
12 hours to go before I go to bed. I think I'm going to make it but if I fail well good on you Wham! You played it well and will have gotten me right at the finish line. Like some cruel movie ending. I can appreciate it either way. It's the day 1 fails that feel so bad.

The Radio was classic Christmas, so I survived the car rides. It is 2300 and barring the Elves barging in and playing that song, I should survive. (Now I have Gloria Gaynor stuck in my head.)

I made it through Whamageddon 2022! I had one close call in the supermarket, it was just a truly terrible instrumental cover. It didn't disqualify me, but it still hurt a little.

Funny thing, even though the challenge is complete and I can now safely listen to Last Christmas, I ,inexplicably, have absolutely no inclination to do so. Strange, huh?

do web comics having it being a story arc plot point count? if not then I made it, but Sam and Fuzzy just finished a story arc that featured it
the radio station I listen to ALMOST got me, but the DJ said he was going to play it after Mariah's "classic" so I shut off the radio

I believe the official rules say only the original Wham! song counts. You made it. Join your brothers and sisters who survived Whamaggeddon 2022! We will drink for the fallen and feast on traditional post-whamaggedon geese.

Then, once they get the rights, we get the torches and pitchforks, and go house to house destroying all physical copies of the song! And they should save some money to hire hackers to write viral code to overwrite every digital copy of the song with "Brick House" by The Commodores. Or alternately "Super Freak" by Rick James (bitch!)

You all hate joy.

do they need money? I'll chip in. hell I';; pay extra if they go for "All I want for christmas is you"

I didn’t hear the song at all. I also didn’t hear any cover versions. One sticks out like a sore thumb but I don’t know the girl who does it. I like Wham! so I don’t think I totally avoided it, except for one time when I knew it was on a Spotify playlist for sure. I played other lists randomly and I didn’t even hear it.
