Far West 12th Anniversary

Best Selling RPGs - Available Now @ DriveThruRPG.com
I’m definitely not a serious business but then the business of shipping paper around the world was something I’d not repeat.

I buy paper RPGs when I have no choice (and by that I mean I’m impatient). So many games now are buy the print version now and we send it whenever but you get the PDF now.

I just want the damn PdF. It’s lighter than the book. It’s searchable. Yum.
I want both. Unless I'm not sure about the game, then I just want the PDF.

Other than the core three 5E rulebooks, which I bought back when my son asked me to run a 5E game for him and friends so they could learn, the last print book I bought was Dictionary of Mu. That should give you an idea of how long ago it was.

I see print books as crippleware generally, as I can’t easily copy and paste, search, carry, store, etc. as I can with PDFs.

And if a game doesn’t have a PDF or other electronic option, I don’t buy or play it. In the case of 5E, I ran it for my son only once before I discovered DnDBeyond and I haven’t used the print books since.

It’s the sole reason I don’t own any FFG/Edge Star Wars rpg books.

Count me in 'both' category. I can't absorb info from the screen as well as I can from a printed book (no idea why, but there it is). But PDFs are more practical for actual play. Online, obviously so. I might be running a game IRL in the fairly near future. Even then, I will want pdf's for easier printing (of handouts etc.) than trying to photocopy from a book.

I have plenty of games in pdf only where I just wanted to take a look.

Two more reasons for the both - lack of a hernia from taking a lot of reference material around (we used to literally take milk crates full of books to sessions- now I just take my tablet), and preservation of the hard copies from not having to flip through them all the time (I lost more than a few books to spine damage).

Oh Mr Skarka, you keep on giving.....

Quick Poll:
Which outcome is considered an improvement on prior performance?
1) One supplement release before 2036, or
2) Both supplements released before 2048.

(It was 12 years wasn't it, I'm going off the thread title but must admit I can't remember)

He finally quit Twitter? His productivity will soar!

Edit: just a thought... is he having problems writing fiction because now the narrative will have to follow the published rules?
I think GMS is a lifeform that hibernates for years at a stretch and has to snatch a few hours of writing time on each brief waking.

Is there anyone out there who even wants one at this point seeing what drek he put out?
IMO, no, what most of his former backers want to see is GMS writing. He'd make a killing if he made a live stream and posted in on FB and YT...

Honestly, I razz but I do want him to finally succeed. He has made an unpleasant bed, and guys are pretty good with the smack talk, but I doubt any of us are truly cheering for him to fail. We are just in various stages of "son, am disappoint" (meme) for not succeeding in a timely manner.

I never gave money though, so my cup of charity must floweth over in comparison.

There are also those with much stronger feelings on the matter...but yeah, that's where I'm at, as well:thumbsup:!

I’m not cheering for him to fail, but I am hoping that he’ll someday admit that he has unrealistic views about his own abilities and actually admit to his failures.

And, y’know, have the good sense to never take money for an unfinished product ever again.

I'm more and more skeptical when it comes to people admitting their own mistakes, lately...:shade:

Actions have consequences, both good and bad. And he gets whatever he deserves BASED on those actions and choices, again, BOTH good and bad.

My personal opinion, of course.

I mean, we've got Far West backers in this forum.

Anyone get their books yet?
I have seen someone report getting a copy:

It is absurdly funny that they got a copy despite not having purchased it.

The notion of a wuxia/old west mashup with steampunk elements is strangely getting my creativity going, even though I have very little prior interest in either westerns or wuxia.

No way I would use this game for it though, given the feedback I'm seeing and reluctance to reward the author.

Seems even sadder that a cool concept has ended up in this train wreck.

Sounds like you need to take a look at Broken Ruler's High-Plains Samurai.

I have seen someone report getting a copy:
I got it... didn't post there because it says tell us about something good you got recently.

I am really enjoying the let's-read thread on the other forum linked to above. Comedy gold. The guy who wrapped a wet towel round his head and actually read through the game in detail deserves a medal.
What, have there been updates?

After checking: nope, mostly people discussing it, and the lack of Native Americans.

Though I have an explanation why nobody discusses the lack of Native Americans. I suspect they just looked at the Far West mechanics, and said "nah, we're fine not being in this":shade:!
