    Shadowrun News...

I've been toying with just about everything Brander brought up here here in Foundry planning a one-shot for my remote group and I concur with all of it. I tried the SR5 implementation for Foundry and STILL didn't like SR5, so I'm going ahead with SW for it, although I'm bringing in Zozer's...

Doing [Star Wars] without [Star Wars]

As for the accessibility of the oldest system, there's the Star Wars REUP project, which is just WEG Star Wars done in the classic internet redeux style. It claims to be under CC and uses OpenD6 . The hosting has been up for YEARS so I don't think it's bothering the Mouse any...

    Cyber Future RPGs

I'm a huge fan of everything RTG, but I would run CP2020 before Red. Overall, Mike Pondsmith's time working for Microsoft seemed to lead him down a path where he was more interested in video-game type mechanics as opposed to some of the techniques that exist in TTRPGs overall. It gave me the...

    One D&D

3.0 DMG pg 162 3.5 DMG pg 145 Tangentially related: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. Yeah, they were basically technology-wands, but they were sort of in there.

Any tales of GOOD experiences with meta-plot?

I always felt like there was plenty of information, but the problem was that it was still being doled out when LEG went extinct. The deep dive on Dragoncrests in the LEGionnaire was pretty good, and while it didn't go into much historical information or give stats on the former empire, that was...

    Traveller questions.

The skill system in T5 is quite a bit different though, it's not unheard of for skills to reach the same level as stats in there. Also, for a lot of tasks if you're using tools from a high TL will have a lot more impact than the stats (Looking at you, Space Combat Task).

    Kickstarters Thread

You know, not really. Like it's a flavor thing; if it's not your thing it's not your thing. I don't feel any calling whatsoever towards superhero games (specially the [metal]-Age ones), so I just don't get them; if Sine Nomine were to put one out (excluding the arguable fantasy superhero-ness of...

    Kickstarters Thread

Sine Nomine has a new KS coming on 1 Feb. It's for Cities Without Number, his take on a Cyberpunk setting.

I'm looking forward to Blade Runner.

I don't work for them, I'm not here to sell it. Personally, I don't regret having backed it, and I like the presentation of the book, the illustration, and the nice layout of the modern imagining of the Blade Runner setting (as extrapolated from the 2049 movie). That was enough for me, again...

I'm looking forward to Blade Runner.

So, the answer to both your questions are that there aren't really any mystery mechanics. The case files have a set of clues that lead the players to the solutions, and they specifically call out in the GM section that the point of the game isn't to solve the cases, but is instead to roleplay...

I'm looking forward to Blade Runner.

If you're talking about the stress dice from Aliens specifically, I think you can just stick it in whole-hog, using d6's as presented. In T2k the Ammo dice work exactly the same way as the Stress dice during autofire attacks, and if you want to be adding that aspect of building up your stress...

    Sword's Path Glory

They never got to book 3. All the basic functions of the SPG books can be found in the Phoenix Command Hand To Hand supplement. Overall, I liked some of it, and I've put it into some excel self-calculating stuff to make it work better, but when you get right down to it, a system that uses 1m...

    Licensed RPGs

I think that the power of a license in RPGs to pull people in can pretty easily be shown with the success of the Avatar RPG Kickstarter. They pulled almost $10 million dollars out of assorted pockets for a PBTA game.

    Harlan Ellison Interview

So I've been on a Harlan Ellison kick lately, but outside his stories, looking at some of his interviews over the years and seeing how his opinions and mine agree or differ. Broadly speaking, he's never been one of my favorite authors, but has certainly been tangential to them, and is one of the...

    Starship combat in RPGs

Ethical considerations are the only points where hyperbole is pertinent. The point of the extrapolation was that cheaper doesn't mean better when you're talking about making decisions that kill people. I would personally prefer to think of sci fi where the overall isn't a Neal Asher novel, or...

    Starship combat in RPGs

So, from that logic, with the cost of a hypothetical war at trillions of dollars, and the cost of 100 nuclear warheads at 8.4M dollars each coming in at 1000's of times cheaper, the answer should be the nukes?

    Starship combat in RPGs

<shrug> Maybe I wasn't clear then. I meant that while the technology might have been developed, an ethical society won't use them. Case in point would be the current US stance on chemical and biological weapons, as well as land mines (on the latter we refuse to use anything that lacks the...

    Starship combat in RPGs

I agree, Luca's example drones are a completely unethical military system. Reasonable humans wouldn't develop them that way for the same reason we don't have surface-to-air missiles protecting sensitive sites that automatically fire. There would be a 100% chance that someone who is not the...

    Starship combat in RPGs

I've always liked that description, and while it goes a long way to defining the technology, unfortunately the visuals don't support that interpretation. There's multiple scenes were the Razorback and Roci are unevenly aligned with the Razor further forward during cruising, which would...

    Starship combat in RPGs

But if you're operating under the assumption that it MIGHT be exposed to hard vacuum, it would be better to have the redundancy of enabling it to operate in that capacity rather than have to replace all the electronics in a given compartment in the event that it IS exposed. And cooling...
