Lar chips in: "There have been rumours about the bandits - it's a big worry, what have you seen?" He appears to have taken what you said at face value.

"Some tracks that lead our scouts to your farmstead. Heard some similar rumours... since when did this start? It seems like a more recent problem that reared it's head."

"Just a couple of months - It's been quiet near 10 years since Hubba moved into Acheron. They just hit here and there, Sometimes farms, sometimes caravans."

OOC: Best roll was 4
Your roll was 5, success with reduced effect. Your quarry's best roll was 6, Success. He takes a couple of pot shots back at you with a blaster distracting Twitch enough to put him off his game a bit. You don't make any real gains against your quarry.

Clock6-2.png Chase clock.

You're also getting quite some distance away from your base.

Round three. Make another HELM roll each to see if you can gain further.

OOC: Best was a 3
OOC two 6's!
Opponent rolls a 1. Failure and lose opportunity for action.

Two 6's = critical success. +1 party gambit.

Clock6-0.png Chase Clock

In a fabulous display of riding prowess you deftly pick your way through the terrain and catch up on the fleeing rider. This puts him off and causes him to lose control of his bike. The bike pitches over and throws him off. Both of you pull up on the rider, who is disoriented and desperately trying to pick up his bike from the ground.

You are now in a CONTROLLED situation with INCREASED effect. The biker is trying to pick his bike up to get back on it.

What do you do?

Lar says that there are a number of farms in wadis and other places with artesian water close enough to the surfaces. There's talk of forming some sort of militia as the Gendarmes and State rangers don't seem to care.

1 = No and complication. The biker manages to parry the stunner and swat it out of your hand. He drops the bike and starts to go for his blaster.

Ida sees him reaching for the blaster and extends her hand, palm outward using the Way to send out a concussive blast directed at his stomach.

OOC: Best result was 5

OOC: Technically you need to fling an object to use kinetics but people count as objects according to Page 82 (in fact even motorbikes do). You can spend a gambit or a stress point to fling him against some rocks (specify stress or gambit in reply)

5 = success with complications: You fling him against some rocks and hear a crack of something breaking. He clutches his side and tries to go for his gun again.

1 = No and lose opportunity for action: He tries to get the blaster with his off-hand, fumbles and drops it. He is still trying to get at his blaster, which on the ground on the side of his off-hand.

What do you do?

Twitch goes for the blaster as well.
Don't know what skill but here's two d6 rolls in order. 4,2

OOC: You've got one point in SCRAP.

4 = success with complications. You leap on the biker and grab his hand, now struggling with the blaster. You have him pinned and leaning on his weak side. He can't shoot you now. If Ida can come in and help you can probably disarm and immobilise him.

Scoffing, Kal leans back into his chair. "What else is new on the latter part? Feels like every group for themselves nowadays. Forming a militia wouldn't be a bad idea. Say, are there are any other steads nearby we could stop at? Maybe we could help pass the word on this. I might be stepping out of my place but a preventative measure like this might help nip this bandit group in the bud before they get any stupid ideas."

Kal looks to see the reaction of his proposal for his own group, and if they are interested. He pulls a face that tries to convey 'two birds one stone' but isn't sure if he does it correctly.

"We're about the last one along this route before the deep wastes. Nuthin' much but nomads after this 'til you get to Staple hold. That's about 800 kays west of here." He thinks for a bit and continues "You look like you can handle yourselves but you be careful out there."

You finish the meal quickly as you haven't heard back from Ida and Twitch yet.

Okon has gone out to one of the crawlers and set up a satellite antenna. "Anonymous comms," he says, "won't get traced back to us."

He hooks his handcomp to the comms and downloads something. He says "I got one or two folks with their ears to the ground. Always good to have intel."

He starts perusing whatever he's downloaded and mumbling out loud, then pulls you aside.

"Mainly just the usual. The States still haven't identified the bandits, and Hubba's gone to ground. He's putting out feelers to get any track on our whereabouts. Then he points you to a note on the handcomp. It says "Credible rumor that Zawi is trying to requisition a CG and some drones from the Gendarmes."

"If that's true then he means to do a grid search of the wastes if he pulls that off. We need to get underway ASAP. "

Lar comes out and says "I've written down the details of the guy wanting to organise the militia". He hands you a piece of paper with an handwritten note:

Steevo makes a call to Ida. "Hey there might be drones looking for us, so we need to move soon."

OOC: You're driving three large tracked crawlers. The statues are just too big to carry on a camel. Crawlers are pretty common - these days maybe more common than draft animals - so they don't really stand out.

Okon says "Zawi's a historian. He isn't an expert on this and the ministry doesn't have authority to stop-and-search. There is legal precedent on that and he's had his knuckles rapped over it before. However, he's also got form for playing fast and loose with the limits of his jurisdiction."

Ida will come in and assist with the disarming. To immobilise I'll tie him up if we have some rope or similar to hand, if not we'll knock him out.

OOC: SCRAP roll's best was a 4.

I should say I have being rolling 2d6 and taking the worst in cases where I have zero points in the Action. The "best" is just a standard phrasing.

4 = Success with reduced effect. You manage to subdue the biker between you. You find a roll of duct tape in a toolkit on the motorbike, with which you can immobilise him.

OOC: Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the universe together.

OOC: Maybe we can try and find a way to either use the drones for our own purpose, to simultaneously help the locals (i.e. use them to scout bandit positions)?

OOC: Zawi is the grande fromage of the Minstry of Antiquities, and is one of the more well funded people chasing the rumours of Elgin's temple. The drones belong the the Gendarmes - He probably won't be interested in lending them to you.

If you could find a way to steal them, on the other hand ...

OOC: I was thinking more along the lines of making a political entity within the local farmsteads to put pressure on the gendarmes to provide the drones to help protect tax paying citizens rather than bending to the whims of a minister for a personal manhunt

OOC: thinking outside the box. You might have to do a little homework about the political structures and see if you can find a lever to pull. This might take a bit of time and would be a bit hard to do by remote control.

Kal makes a mental note of something to do back when they are in civilisation. He thanks Lar for their hospitality. "Try and rally the homesteads, I will get in touch. Maybe if there is enough local pull here we could possibly rally the Gendarmes to do something about the bandito problem."

You get some incoherent defiance back; the rider looks quite young - somewhere in their late teens - and wearing what appears to be some gang social capital; you can see tattoos, patches and suchlike. Reading between the lines you get the impression that he's pretty blindly following some charismatic leader called Stannis. He also uses the term 'Le Predateur Apex' to refer to the leader, and also describes the group as Apex Predators.

Okon calls you on the short range comms. He says "Just had some breaking news - Looks like Zawi might be trying to requisition a CG off the Gendarmes. We need to move out as soon as possible and get the vehicles undercover. We're still a day or so's drive so I'd like to get to the destination ASAP."

"We should be ready to move out in a few minutes. We didn't really unpack, or anything.

Steevo makes another call to Ida. "Timetable has been moved forward. We need to move."

Ida places the young man across the dirt bike and rides back to the convoy. If that's not possible she'll leave him where he is with a stern warning.

Hard to secure him to the bike with what you have available - duct tape and bungee cords aren't going to cut it. You're at least 10km from the valley now and the trail isn't the best. You leave him there but take his blaster. It's an older model Sparin that looks like it's seen better days.

You ride back to the valley as Steevo, Kal and Okon's team are finishing up the prep. After packing the bikes back on the crawler you start off back down the valley.

According to Okon you're about 150km from the temple. You're offroad for about two thirds of that (this trail counts as a road by local standards) and it should take you about a day to get there.

After some time driving the tracks of the bandits turn off to the left out into rough country.

You drive down the road and see a caravan of Metasaurs in the distance. They are riding down the trail towards you.

Smith Smith - While you were there you noticed that Cletus and Daise appear to have a thing for each other.

OOC: Is it a suitable pairing? Not sure of the familial gene pool out this far...
OOC: Cletus is a farm hand; they're probably not related. He's quite young, not much more than 20, and seems a pretty decent in a redneck sort of way. Their suitability is more a function of whether Lar or Cory approve of him.

While waiting on the return of Ida and Twitch, Kal strikes up a conversation with the love-struck locals to find out how fitting they are as a pair. SWAY 2d6 = 2,6
6 = Success. Daise is a bit embarassed and she says she's 19 and perfectly capable of making her own decisions. They haven't told her parents and she's not 100% sure they will approve. She asks you not to tell them.

Add +1 Gambit for the success.

OOC: You can park by the trail easily enough - the terrain is a bit crap but there is plenty of room to do it.

"It might slow us a bit, but it is the safest thing to do. What do you say Okon?"
