Making jokes about medical conditions of other people? I'd hope that most comedians are above that.Chris Rock did what edgy comedians do,
Losing their shit and getting violent over a joke?and Will Smith did what husbands do;
He coulda been. Celebrities know a mea culpa for stupid shit is what's required.That might work if Smith didn’t weep and apologize in his acceptance speech, unless he was going for a second Oscar.
What's notable is that he didn't apologize to Chris Rock. Not sure I would have either, especially without him apologizing for the foul words.That might work if Smith didn’t weep and apologize in his acceptance speech, unless he was going for a second Oscar.
It's not OK to physically assault someone for hurting your feelings. But people lose their tempers. I've certainly been there.

If he was that upset with him, he should have asked a staffer or someone during a commercial break if he could speak with him after the telecast. Not go up and slap him on live TV.
Is it? I mean if I scream some obscenity at someone until they hit me would I suddenly become an edgy comedian?Perhaps...from a theological point of view I suppose I'd agree...
Ah well, I can't see it as anything but a win for Chris Rock. For a comedian of his sort, getting someone mad enough to come on stage and smack you is pure gold and proof you haven't lost your edge.
