Yesterday I went to sit with my ALS friend again. This time I exacted a plan to get revenge on his wife.

That probably needs explaining. Her mother was a hoarder and when she died, daughter inherited thousands of perfectly preserved items of value and rarity. She's spent years shipping it off to museums and collectors to get it out of the house, because she can't throw things away either. When I arrived yesterday she was polishing her uncle's anvil. (Not a euphemism.) But not everything she inherited was good for anything. The last time they visited us, for a birthday boardgame party, she brought a couple dozen useless things with her and tried to play them off as lucky dip gifts. Mildly annoying spittingwife.

Hence the revenge. I've been planting Lego minifigs among her enormous collection of household ornaments so she'll have even more to get rid of. I let ALS friend in on the scheme and he's mildly amused by it all.

So, apropos of nothing in particular, one of the reasons that I post here, and far less on other RPG sites, even somewhat reasonable ones, is that I know that I'm a fucking dick and I can't help poking people about their grand and ill-thought-out pronouncements about the state of the hobby.

I might as well include the post in question...

Yup, I get it. I sometimes tilt at windmills but most of the time I just can't muster up the energy to bother. because you end just wanting to smash a rock against their head or yours. lol

I’d recommend the fitness thread and doing it before you do! I’m feeling the pain pretty bad. Not disappointed though.

What a tool. Sorry dumbass, “Roll under Dexterity for Dexterity stuff” and “The GM will tell you what Stat to roll under” aren’t “a corpus of rules over time.”

I think I may have caught my upstairs neighbors getting ready to steal a delivered package from my doorstep.

Some months ago, I had an Amazon package allegedly delivered, but it seemed to vanish into the ether.

Today, I was expecting a package. I heard a very loud knock on my door, and I heard the sound of the postal vehicle driving away. I only took long enough to throw on a shirt before opening the door to grab my package.

And one of my upstairs neighbors was running down the stairs, her eyes on my door, and as soon as she saw me, she froze, and then turned to return upstairs.

Very odd. And in that split second before she froze, her attention seemed to be on the package on my doorstep.

It's pretty sad if I'm right.

Wait until you see how reading is taught.

I kid you not NYC just declared they have been teaching reading wrong for the last 20+ years so their implementing a new system that will stress things like ...(drum roll).... Phonics!

Just this morning my wife and I were sort of appalled that the variety and quality of material aimed squarely at young kids has risen to amazing quality and yet somehow reading scores are declining for kids across the country. Never had a child been so likely to find a book aimed at their reading level and their particular interests than right now but many still can read adequately. W. T. F?!?!
 
Having a hell of a time concentrating today. Don't know why, but my working theory is that it's from being back at work after having roughly a week off.
 
I got back into writing by writing for a contest- I won't get any feedback though and was disqualified because I didn't put the word needed in the text. I totally whiffed on that one.

No way! Phonics is finally back! They had that shit when I was in grade school. Made me feel stupid too, because I'm one of those rare birds who can't spell or pronounce phonetically. I gotta memorize everything.

I have to tell folks at work tomorrow (I work in K12 education in California, but I'm IT, not a teacher.) Education must have finally run out of fads to throw at the wall in the Quest for the Holy Grail...err, fad that makes all the kids magically learn! And they're taking a page out of Hollyweird's book, and just rehashing something they've already used... :hehe:
