Good OSR class name for combination thief/ranger?

It's humorous, but the actual name of such a character in old school D&D *is* Ranger/Thief.

If you wanted to make a wilderness thief however, you could name it something like Highwayman or Bandit.

Rangers are a Fighting-Man subclass, so you would need to define the class further if you wanted an honor-bound wilderness warrior with some thief skills. Like Robin Hood's merry men?

What I'm doing is using OSE for a mini-campaign. I want to stick to 4 classes but replace the thief with something that can cover the themes and functions of both the thief and/or the ranger depending on the player's choices.

Ninja:shade:.

Seriously, guys, ninja are thieves, that was even historically acknowledged. There's a reason why I'm basically using the Thief-Acrobat and Thief* classes as "Ninja of the Way of the Scorpion" template in my Mythras Classic Fantasy game:thumbsup:!

And they work fine, possibly with dual-classing for Wizard or Priest of Nemesis, no issues like representing a ninja in a D&D-derived class system.

*Depending on specialization, the Thief is more like an infiltrator ninja, the Thief-Acrobat is more of a "dirty hands" specialist.

I’m not. Don’t worry. I grew up on a steady diet of horror, sci-fi, and kung fu. No apologies.

The first Trancers is a cult classic and is even positively reviewed in the SF Encylopedia, which tends to be pretty rough on sf films. It's reputation over the years has only grown. The sequels on the other hand, I've been warned to stay away.

Tomb Robber?

Obtainer of Rare Antiquities
I like where we eventually ended up with 'Outlaw', but if this ever comes up again may I offer, 'Raider'.
Reiver is cool, but much like Marauder and other like terms it's got that I just burned your hut and stole your goats vibe.
. . . shucks.
Sadly real world thievery so often fails to live up to D&D.

We may need to fall back on neologism.

The thief/ranger is a:

Rafflesgorn
That will be plus one for the references, but minus several million for pronouncability and aesthetics.
