So, um, I found this streaming site called TinyZone.

It probabnly won't be around long, no idea how it even makes money, but it has everything. Imagine like 50 streaming services content mashed together, with all the recent films.

So yeah, taking advantage of it while it exists

Finished Between and enjoyed it.

Now watching Doctor Who, on BBC Catchup. I watched the first half of series 11 and stopped, for some reason, so have caught up on the rest of series 11.

So, I have gone from watching some generally pretty good SciFi/Fantasy/Urban Horror series to the Doctor running around and gurning at people. It has been a bit of a shock, to be honest. Still, only a Christmas Episode and series 12 to go, should finish those by Monday, hopefully.

We watched When Marnie Was There (Omoide no Mānī ) on Netflix. Recommended.

Not usually one for DC supers stuff, but very much enjoying GOTHAM.
Recently finished TALES FROM THE LOOP on Amazon Prime, a few so-so episodes, but strong on the whole.
Catching up on LEGACIES via Netflix, for reasons that have nothing to do with the Appearance stat of the lead actress ...

I'm hoping Clone Wars finishes strong, the middle episodes re establishing Ahsoka were very Ahso-so.

Clearly her showdown with Maul won't be decisive since both them appear in Rebels. The sublt changes to the character build are nice

I stopped watching after series 11. It's not even any special aversion to the current Doctor or showrunner. I think the show has always been pretty hit or miss. I'm just burned out on Doctor Who as a whole at the moment. All shows wear out. Doctor Who has done better with longevity than most due to its ability switch out the cast, but I'm just a little tired of the whole concept.

It might win me back someday, but for now I need a long break.

So, finished Donner Cut of Superman 2.

It was really interesting. For the first hour orso it seemed likea completely different film. There was an amazing amount of unused footage. I'd like to see more films like this - instead of remakes, reconstructions from alternate takes. It improved it a lot, seemed much less silly overall. It's been probably at least 20 years since I'd seen the original cut, but I always found it very disjointed and the humour that came to overtake the series by Part 3 was already far too intrusive, especially all the fights with Zod and his team.

I can't recall exactly, but I seem to remember Marlo not being in TOC? Wasn't it Kal El's mom? If so, whatever they did, they added a ton of emotional weight to Clark's choice to remove and then regain his powers. I never thought it had any sort of meaning in the original - he de-powers, goes to a diner and gets beat up then sees Zod on TV, and suddenly he has his powers back. This version crafted that into an actual sacrifice. Some really powerful acting by Reeves that sells it. I also thought this version handled Lois finding out his secret way better.

The final confrontation with Zod and the gang was much more to the point. No goofy cellophane S-symbol and a host of random new powers for no reason. Though them "falling into the mist" still seemed a bit underwhelming as a resolution.

Overall a superior film to what I grew up with.

But...still a lot of problems.

First thing that bugged me is when the hawt evil Kryptonian picks up a snake and it bites her, so she flings it away and eye-lasers it into flames. How did it bite her? They already have all the Superman powers, can snakes for some reason overcome Kryptonian invulnerability?

This one has always bugged me - after Kal gives up his powers, they drive back from the North pole? How? Where did the car come from? Is there are highway leading directly back to Metropolis? I know I'm overthinking a superhero film, but why didn't the writers or director ever think of that?

I still don't like that Luthor coincidentally finds out about the existence of Zod right as Zod arrives on Earth. I can accept a lot of coincidences, especially when it comes to Supewrheroes, but that one still pushes it too far, worse than when someone turns on the TV and gets exactly the plot information needed.

And the new ending (sigh) - turning back time, again. I may be wrong but I think this was new/manipulated footage. Looked like there was a double standing in for Lois, and then just a bunch of reversed and stock footage. Anyways, this was always my only major problem with the first Superman film, which I think overall is a masterpiece. I just don't like it as a solution. And it's so weird to have it here, because the whole premise of this film seemed to be based on Superman paying the consequences for that in the first film. He violates the rules of time and space and that inadvertantly releases the criminals from the Phantom Zone. At least then there's some give and take with the ending of the original, narratively speaking. But here it's just this weird plot convenience patch. Instead of a memory-erasing kiss on Lois, he reboots to remove everyone's memory of the entire film. But Zod is still dead? His dad is still gone? It creates so many questions. And why wouldn't Lois still have the suspicions she had at the beginning of the film? I hate to say it, but the memory wipe kiss seemed more believable. And if there's no consequences, why couldn't he just turn back time anytime something bad happens?

Bleh, it hurts my brain.

I can forgive it, but it's a stain on an otherwise decent flick.

So, last thing, I really, really wish they'd left out of this cut the scene where Clark returns to the diner and beats the guy up. That always struck me as so contrary to Superman's character. I know it's provides some satisfaction to the audience, but it always struck me as so petty. If he'd done it without his powers, it would be meaningful, but as Superman, he's just picking on a human. I always thought it was a mistake, and was really hoping it would be gone.

I guess what I'd like to see now is someone combining the first film with this one to reconstruct Donner's original plan for this big epic, even if it's like 3 hours long. Audiences could handle that now, we are living in a post-LOTR special editions world.

Does the movie actually place the Fortress of Solitude at the North Pole? Because in the comics it's usually just in "the arctic," which could mean it's just in the really shitty parts north of, like, the Yukon Territories if you wanna stretch the definition a bit.

You could theoretically drive back from that... if you had a lot of gas and a really really good vehicle

I'm pretty sure Luthor states that he's going to the North Pole, but I guess I'm not 100% certain

It being at the actual north pole wouldn't work very well anyway. There's not really any "land" there. Just a shitload of ice that shifts around a lot. It being in super northern Canada or Russia or Alaska would make a lot more sense.

The Exterminators of the Year 3000

Found on Amazon Prime after a painstaking search for something worthwhile: a 1983 Italian postapocalyptic sci fi movie shot in Spain with a script written in English and a cast and crew that may or may not understand the language. Recipe for disaster...or genius?

Just finished watching My Spy, an action comedy with Dave Bautista. As a follow up to the entertaining Stuber, this was so-so. It wasn't horrible, but much like other action stars who did one of these (Jackie Chan & Vin Diesel), the results are mixed. It's not Bautista's fault (he's proven in Guardians he can do deadpan humor really well), but faults in the script. Ken Jeong is kind of wasted in a supporting role, and the little girl actually steals Dave's thunder multiple times in the movie. Still, it wasn't a waste of time. It's not a kid movie though, as there is a bit of cursing in it

They made a lot of these Mad Max ripoffs in the early 80s and have loads of these films on Prime, I've watched an insane number although I don't think I could say a single one was actually good, unless you consider Cherry 2000 part of the genre, which I guess it is. I remember being surprised that it wasn't just terrible softporn.

After finishing My Spy, and I went back to finish Incredibles 2 (I've been flipping between a lot of movies where I start, then finish them later). I hadn't seen it before, but like the first one, was a lot of fun. Jack Jack is just hilarious, and his antics through out the movie made the movie for me. I might go finish Freaks now, or maybe catch up some more on McGyver or Gotham

Watching Elvira, Mistress of the Dark on Shudder (also available on Prime I believe) and it is as silly as you'd think, very 80s and surprisingly PG but moves quickly, has an appropriately OTT ending and should work for B-movie fans and after all who else is going to be watching it?

Based on my memories of watching that on video back in 1985, I am going with disaster.

My favorite part:

It's a fact that all the best movies have multiple titles, such as Warriors of the Apocalypse a.k.a. Searchers of the Voodoo Mountain a.k.a. Operation Overkill a.k.a. Time Raiders* a.k.a. 2098 Nuclear Holocaust. More titles = better movie. It's just a cinematic axiom.

"What in the hell is going on?" Hey!, That's what I was going to say!

There's nothing 'shitty' about the Yukon Territories. I assume you are just referring to the cold weather or something but the terminology is a bit lacking.
Re-read the sentence. "Shitty places north of"

Also, be direct.

Got'cha. I was confused by what you had said and thought I may be misunderstanding hence my confused emoticon but I can see how my lack of a direct question would be equally confusing.

These posters are great, no doubt better than the actual film!

I dunno...I like a good bad sci fi movie better than most "good" movies. I even played the lead in a cheap Italian sci fi film that was never completed. I can't remember the title but I played Captain Antonio Palomino of the A.S.I.* I was returning to earth in my one-man spaceship only to discover a nuclear war has taken place during my absence and bloodthirsty mutants were on the prowl. The level of SFX: spaceship scenes were shot inside a garage with the lights turned off (automobile dashboard switches and lights reflecting off my face served to provide the illusion of a spaceship cockpit interior), the director's father's prosthetic ear (he'd lost an ear in some kind of military accident if I remember right) was affixed to an actor's forehead to turn him into a mutant, a suburban canyon became an " atomic wasteland" (with camera angles chosen solely based on "let's make sure you can't see any houses in the background"), and a model spaceship on "invisible" wires was shot in the same dark garage in front of black cardboard with holes poked in it and bright light shining from behind to make a "star field." Sadly only the first act (maybe 15 minutes of story) was ever completed. My favorite line was when the script totally ripped off Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes after landing my spaceship in the atomic wasteland and before fighting bloodthirsty mutants:

The Red Letter Media commentary for Warriors of the Apocalypse is just the best

JB: There's Blue Meanie. He is a wrestler. And he's been used in several Len's films.

RE: Yes. I understand he's been in WWE.

MS: Is that true?

JB: WW AND E?

RE: It used to be an "F".

MS: Until they got sued by the Worldwide Wild Fund.

JB: They should just beat 'em up.

MS: They should've, yeah. "Let's settle this in a ring".

RE: "Environmentalists! Versus! The Macho Man Randy Savage!"

MS: But the twist is that they bring in a bunch of bears and pandas and the WWF wins after the first round. It's like that twist that happens in a wrestling.

RE: So the Macho Man has to wrestle a 65 year old pudgy bearded man but bearded man gets to use a panda.

MS: He gets to tag a panda and a panda comes in.

RE: Pandas are just most useless animals. Let just have the panda go extinct. Any animal that refuses to have sex and only eats some weird, obscure type of bamboo, probably deserves to go out.

MS: That's true, that's very true.

JB: Did they taste good at least?

MS: I don't know, I've never been to Panda Express.

My favorite part of Superman II!!!

It was a really clever ploy. Played out way better in the Donner cut I thought.

Terrance Stamp was so good in that role. Really outstanding casting.

I never noticed it as a kid, but that girl Kryptonian is insanely hot.

High Road to China. Unfortunately, this flick was marketed as another "Raiders of the Lost Ark". And while there are superficial similarities, HRTC is its own kind of movie. And it's a lot of fun. Tom Selleck is perfectly cast in this.

Saw this in the theatre when it came out. Great movie.

Watching Sheba, Baby for some Pam Grier goodness.
