All the Stara Szkola supplements, are they…
  • Codex Martialis just in a unique system
  • Streamlined Codex Martialis
  • Codex Martialis II
  • Something new entirely
  • Codex Martialis for a more modern age
I’ve got some Codex Martialis, so just wondering.
I can't speak for all the Stara Szkola supplements, but Streets of the Fencing Master seems to consist of:
1) adapting some of the Codex Martialis material that was omitted from Stara Szkola to the SSk rules - defensive counterstrikes, feints, grappling, shooting techniques, etc.
2) Explaining some setting assumptions: what is an apprentice, a journeyman, what are the benefits of citizenry, what martial training artisans can get...
3) A detailed fictional city exemplifying the concepts.
4) An adventure.

All of that is done very concisely, and I like it:thumbsup:!

The most recent thing that I absolutely loved, made me feel like there was hope in the RPG world again....that they could make an excellent sourcebook that fires the imagination and excites the roleplayer within you.

Twilight Imperium: Embers of the Imperium Roleplaying Game

Twilight Imperium Embers of the Imperium.jpg

It's been so long since I've really been impressed with an RPG supplement, and this one brought me back to the 1990s! Wonderful art! Fantastically written blend of setting material for better immersion and stats for game use! Lore for the setting that goes beyond, deeper, than even the material that you can read in the board game material.

I didn't own anything for the Genesys system, but I bought the PDF of the main book after I picked this up to see what the system was like. While the game system doesn't necessarily excite me, this book DEFINITELY excites me!

It even FEELS like a high quality book, with a nice built-in ribbon bookmark to keep your place as you spend hours upon hours reading through everything in the book.

Absolutely love this!

It's my birthday, so I knew what to ask for!
CORIOLIS The Third Horizon (core rules), and the Mercy of the Titans trilogy (campaign)
It's basically THE EXPANSE meets DUNE
Great stuff !!!

"Doom pool alert", though...hope it's not a problem for you:thumbsup:!

(Like, seriously, I read Coriolis and had almost decided to give all the Fria Ligan games a short shift. It's only recently I was told only Coriolis has that feature, which counts as a dealbreaker bug in my case, by Crom:shade:! Hence, I really hope Mankcam Mankcam is more broad-minded than me...:gunslinger:)

It could be, after my issues with CONAN 2D20 Doom Pts!

I will have to see how intrusive it is here in CORIOLIS, and if it is necessary to the game experience.

With CONAN I eventually gave up, the Doom Pts were certainly a contributing factor amongst several reasons.

I converted those characters to Mythras for any subsequent Hyborian Age adventures, so the worrst case scenario here is that I use this game's setting, lore, and campaign structure to run a Mythras M-Space campaign.

So it's no biggie at the end of the day, but of course I'ld prefer to persevere with this version of the Year Zero Engine first, rules as written.

I find YZE similar to other dice pool mechanic trpgs, they look functional enough to hang different settings and genres from, but the mechanics don't sing for me.

Despite this, from what I have seen of YZE, it's quite straightforward, and versatile enough to be a foundation for a wide scope of settings

At the end of the day, it's Free League's settings and production that are what's really attracting me

Mankcam Mankcam Honestly in my opinion the dice pools for YZE games aren't bad at all, I enjoy them personally. I say that as someone who overall isn't a fan of dice pools. YZE mechanics warmed me up to them. They're more limited and not as crazy as some systems. (looking at you T&T in the old days with large double fisted piles of dice)

FWIW, I like YZE because it makes equipment matter again, past "this allows you to do X".

OTOH, I'm not sure I want that in all games...but for the right game, sure - ideally a pre-industrial setting, where you have few items that are built to last and individualized:thumbsup:!

I am someone who has an issue with Doom Points in Conan but don't have an issue with the Darkness Points in Coriolis. Its also simple to make Darkness Points a separate GM pool if its an issue, unlike Conan.

I'm glad to hear this. It's probably the YFE game I'd like to run the most...it's just that I've read it* and it would be a problem for me.

In this case (and not only:shade:), being thicker-skinned would have been a good thing, but you get what you get:thumbsup:!

*Funny enough, they have a copy in a LFGS here that you can read if you want, instead of picking a boardgame...

Found these at Half-price Books. Been wanting to reread this series for awhile now.

I read through the Casca series a long time ago. I still have the books. I should probably revisit them, too.

Just out of curiosity, how much were they charging for them at your HPB? The one closest to me had them in the "collectible paperbacks" section for a long time, and were wanting something like $10-20 each for them. They never seemed to sell.

These were around 3-5$ apiece. Great find. Been hunting these for probably a decade.

I was superficially scrolling this thread on my phone, and only just glanced at this pic, and immediately assumed that Dumarest Dumarest had posted it, heh heh
Nah, that's the kind of stuff my older brother used to read while blasting Dead Kennedys and drinking Slim Price beer and hiding Hustler magazines under his mattress. I'm pretty sure Self Saboteur Self Saboteur isn't him, though, even if the username fits.

What is Contractor Drive?
First off, my mistake. It's Convictor Drive. I see SavAce beat me to it. It's a Kamen Rider inspired rpg. I don't know much about Kamen Rider, but it looked interesting so I backed it. It's a nice little hardcover print book too. While some of these weird size formatted books I've gotten are a pain to stack with others, they are well done.

Seattle was surprisingly not as bad as I've heard. But, tbh, I'm originally from Phoenix, and I've lived in neighborhoods where local restaurants wouldn't even deliver food. So, it takes a lot to get under my skin. I mean, I live in the suburbs now, sure, but i've got a family, why wouldn't I? We were in the Pioneer Square area of Seattle, and while I definitely saw some squalor, I never felt unsafe.

My Paranoia books arrived today. Haven't had time to look at them, but I love the GM screen image.

Yeah man. The way I grew up everything seems pretty fancy at this point, even the shithole cocaine-spackled town I currently live in.

Visually Seattle has changed a lot over the years. As a kid I'd go down 1st Ave and it was a lot of run down businesses, pawn shops and peep shows. Then it got nicer as Seattle prospered. Then it got super clean. Most of the old sketchy businesses were run off. Lately the theft and drugs have made doing business a real challenge. But nationally it's still a pretty safe town. I will say 2 blocks off Pike Place Market a pregnant gal was shot dead a few months back by a crazy homeless guy. We've had more homicides than almost any year in Seattes history.
